State Management Unit-Rural housing
State Management Unit – Rural Housing (SMU-RH) was established in 2016 vide Government Decision No. 2015/P.No.413/Yojana-10 dated 16th February, 2016 under the Department of Rural Development, Government of Maharashtra to give effect to. Central and State Government Housing Schemes in Maharashtra implementation and Promotion. SMU-RH facilitates and implements the schemes of various departments like Department of Rural Development, Social Justice, Scheduled Castes, Nomadic Tribes and Special Backward Classes Welfare, Industries and Mines and Tribal Department, Schemes promoted by SMU-RH below are given
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Rural (Central Government Scheme, Government of India)
- Ramai Awas Yojana (Department of Social Justice, Government of Maharashtra)
- Shabri Awas Yojana (Department of Tribal Development, Government of Maharashtra)
- Pardhi Awas Yojana (Department of Tribal Development, Government of Maharashtra)Adim Vikas Yojana (Department of Tribal Development, Govt. of Maharashtra
- Yashwantrao Chavan Mukta Vasahat Yojana (Free Castes, Nomadic Tribes and Special Backward Classes Welfare, Labor Department, Government of Maharashtra)

SMU-RH adheres to provide “Housing for All by the year 2024”.
Role of SMU-RH
- Monitoring and Evaluation – The State Management Unit-Rural Housing Office monitors and evaluates the work done at divisional, district, taluka and village levels by holding review meetings.
- Coordination – State Management Unit-Rural Housing Office for effective implementation of schemes as well as other departments viz. Social justice, tribal work regarding program implementation and coordinates with the regional offices of the Housing Department and with the Central Government on issues related to implementation.
- Capacity Building – For capacity building, State Management Unit organizes various workshops, training sessions in rural housing sector.
- Information Education and Communication – Various activities are carried out for information, education and communication related to rural housing sector. E.g. Various gatherings, campaigns, interviews on television as well as private television channels, advertisements in newspapers etc.
- Providing Policy Inputs related to Rural Housing Sector to the Central and State Governments – Various proposals are submitted by the State Management Cell to study the problems encountered in connection with the Rural Housing Scheme and to take policy decisions for more efficient implementation of the scheme. . E.g. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Gharkul Land Purchase Assistance Scheme
Thus, the State Management Unit – Rural Housing is performing its role in active collaboration with regional organizations at state, divisional, district, taluk, group and village levels.
