Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY)
The Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) was launched on 11 October 2014, with the aim of realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s broad vision of an ideal Indian village, keeping in mind the current situation. Under SAGY, each Member of Parliament adopts a Gram Panchayat and guides its overall progress with an emphasis on social development along with basic infrastructure. ‘Adarsh Gram’ is envisioned to become a school of local development and governance, inspiring other Gram Panchayats. By involving the rural population and taking advantage of scientific tools, a village development plan is prepared under the leadership of the Member of Parliament. The characteristic of this scheme is that it is demand driven, community driven and based on public participation.
